Our change continues

Yes it has been a while. Aside from being the only pro-bono nurse advocate in this city, I have 3 little ones that love to get sick in the winter lol, so to say the least I have been caring for them and continuing to go anywhere needed in the community and beyond this state. So here’s a run down of what I wasn’t able to post timely. This site will be changing a little of its focus, staffing will always remain a key subject on this site. But lets go further and discuss your stay at any healthcare facility. We help you by answering any questions you might have about what your plan of care is or why they are ordering a lot of tests and why. Sometimes healthcare workers forget the constant anxiety that patients and their families go through therefore key components of their care can be missed. Most of the time, not on purpose. I mean yeah this is why there are case managers but even they get overwhelmed with their case loads. Ok that was sucky, I just made an excuse, and that’s never a good thing. I am here to help make solutions to a current situation in healthcare. Every healthcare facility has its challenges, but when the facility creates the issues, that’s the problem. This problem we have of understaffing all our hospitals and long term or nursing home type settings allows a huge margin of error which results in your loved one becoming permanently harmed. Why are we not staffed properly….they call it productivity….they call your loved one a number, jumble them with all the other numbers and calculate how much they can save in cost rather then give you the staff that your insurance already paid for. Messed up? Right? Yeah tell me about it, or let me tell you all about it. As a nurse since 2009 our stories are plentiful. We are here for free because this can be timely and costly so we are a non-profit. Currently we have cases that are against some of the biggest chains in the nation that point out the lack of paying attention or even worse the lack of communication between bedside caregiver and the rest of the medical team. This information we provide allows you to remember that as a patient you have every right to question what they are about to do to YOUR body. I am grateful that once I am present to assist, for the most part there is cooperation. Other times their behavior is disgraceful and so unprofessional that they end up telling on themselves. My intention when I call or arrive is to make sure that the patient is cared for in the correct way so that they do not die and go home or the next facility safely. How simple is that? A nurse is the last chance a patient has before they pass away from an error. There has never been a study that has ever said short staffing is beneficial to anyone. We are wanting you to understand your voice is all you have, so if you are not able to, just remember this….call us anytime at 702-900-1342 and we are always and only here for you, the patients, the families and for the wellness of the communities in which we live. Call us and we can help.
