Although its nurse week, we are not being cared for by most administrations here in the city. The nurse to patient ratio and CNA to patient ratios are still struggling to force most hospitals to put in writing safe numbers for our staffing woes. There are still just three hospitals (Hello Humankindness) in Las Vegas that has set ratios. On their medical surgical floor the nurse have no more than 5 patients, as opposed to Sunrise Hospital where they average 7-9 patients per nurse, and Desert Springs Hospital average 6 per nurse to do the same exact care, which is taxing on that nurse. So again some nurses are overworked and your loved ones call lights are still not getting answered in time because of it. Remember that if your main nurse is too busy, then the charge nurse is obligated to help and step in to help. Also if the charge nurse is not helpful then demand to see the house supervisor to get a solution. Be sure to have them tell you if any lab value results are off, any procedures that are going to be done, any changes in medications, and of course what is your plan of care to get you ready to be discharged home.
